Job Summary:
The Construction Estimator is responsible for accurately estimating the costs and resources required for construction projects within the Art and Design > Architecture department. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to interpret architectural drawings and specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and project requirements to determine the scope of work for each construction project.
2. Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and other resources, utilizing industry-standard estimation software and tools.
3. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure accurate interpretation of project requirements and to address any discrepancies or clarifications needed.
4. Evaluate subcontractor bids and proposals to ensure compliance with project specifications and budgetary constraints.
5. Conduct thorough site visits and assessments to gather necessary information for accurate cost estimation.
6. Research and analyze market trends, material costs, and labor rates to ensure estimates are current and competitive.
7. Prepare and present cost estimates to project stakeholders, providing clear explanations and justifications for all cost components.
8. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all estimates, bids, and related documentation.
9. Collaborate with the procurement team to source and evaluate potential vendors and subcontractors.
10. Participate in project kick-off meetings and provide ongoing support to project teams as required.
11. Stay informed about industry best practices, new technologies, and emerging trends related to construction estimation.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field.
2. Proven experience as a Construction Estimator, preferably within the Art and Design > Architecture industry.
3. Proficient in interpreting architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
4. Strong knowledge of construction estimating techniques, methodologies, and industry standards.
5. Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to perform complex calculations and data analysis.
6. Proficient in using industry-standard estimation software and tools.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
8. Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
9. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities to identify and resolve estimation-related issues.
10. Familiarity with local building codes, regulations, and construction practices.
11. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating a high level of accountability and reliability.
